FURNITURE DESIGN
I’m a trained woodworker who still has a love for building and designing custom furniture.
Most of what I’ve made below was during my undergraduate program at VCUarts. The toil of being a 20-something without the vast machinery and resources of a university hasn’t granted the opportunity to return to furniture yet, but here’s hoping my 30-somethings will be a little different.
Should you need anything from traditional joinery to someone who merely knows her way around a shop, feel free to reach out :]
PLATOS & EROS
A pair of chairs commenting on the changes in romantic etiquette over time.
Platos is an example of a Victorian era tête-à-tête, meant for discrete conversation and/or intimacy.
Eros is a chair for 21st century courtship, where intimacy is considerably less formal.
These were designed to look delicate, but each curved piece is stack-laminated by hand to give these chairs structural strength.
Walnut, Cherry, 2014.
STAGNANT AIR
A study on shifting patterns. Each box moves along a track located in the center and edges of the frame.
Walnut, Copper, Brass, 2014.
THE GREAT FISHERMAN
A box made for a boy that travelled the sea.
This walnut had a lot of natural knots that influenced the design I cut into the panels.
Inside the box are slots housing 49 hand-carved map pieces.
While the design is original, these tiles were inspired by the map from Zelda: Wind Waker. Cheers to all those talented little fishermen who drew Link’s map pieces and inspired my own.
Walnut, 2013.
MANDALA
Just a nice little layered mandala. 12” x 12” and entirely carved by hand on a scroll saw.
Birch laminate, Mahogany laminate, 2013.
